Just to let you know that I am currently working on some new templates. The results of a recent survey showed that most of my readers are using the newer templates – the ones compatible with the Template Designer. This is the opposite of what I actually thought was going on – where I incorrectly thought that most people were still using the older template styles, which typically involves customising the Minima template. The equivalent to this template (the easiest one to tweak) in the newer template styles is the Simple template. However, despite sounding like they’re similar, they’re a whole new ball game completely! I need to spend some time playing about with this new template style and working out how best to offer the templates to you before I can release them to you. Unfortunately the old system just isn’t going to work for the newer template styles. At the moment, I am extremely busy with the day job and I’m also up to my neck in study, so time is in very short supply. I therefore have no timescale for when I’ll be releasing the new templates, but just wanted to let you know that I’m working on it!
I did want to ask you something though and would be happy if you could reply in a comment…
Would you rather have an easy blog design installation process, but then LOSE the ability to use the Template Designer OR would you rather have a slightly longer (but not more difficult) installation process and RETAIN the ability to use the Template Designer? The Template Designer is Blogger’s easy way of being able to tweak your own blog template. Despite finding this limiting myself, it IS a great function for less experienced bloggers and coders. I’m leaning towards offering a slightly longer installation process and having people retain the ability to use the Template Designer.
Your thoughts?
If you read this, please do respond :)

That’s the feedback I’ve been getting too. I’m just trying to figure out an easy way to offer the templates, but also while maintaining compatibility with the template designer. I want to make the new way of doing them easy to remove too. I think I’ve found the way, I just need to test it out which I will TRY and do at the weekend. I’m away at hubby’s Burns Night do tonight (staying overnight in a different city) and also have an assignment to work on before fulfilling commitments to the store I design for. Doesn’t really leave much time to tweak a blog design but I’ll try :)
